You can look at http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com to see many more days when a particualr food is celebrated.

Recently the organizers of a Northborough Thanksgiving morning tradition and the Co-Directors of the Northborough Food Pantry met to review and celebrate another food related event, the 8th Annual Northborough Turkey Trot.

If you were anywhere near Zeh School on Howard St, or trying to navigate Church St, in Northborough at 8AM on Thanksgiving morning you were treated to a glimpse of the 8th Annual Northborough Turkey Trot which benefits the Northborough Food Pantry. With the idea that 300 or so registrants would join in this years event, Rita Matraia, the owner of Core Connection fitness club and founder of this town event, welcomed close to 500 participants on Thanksgiving morning. An astonishing 479 "Turkey Trotters" finished their route.

Success of the event can be seen by the smiles on faces captured by Maggie Kosovsky of Kosovsky Photography. Check out the entire video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RKasBE0WM4 or at www.northboroughturkeytrot.com Success is also noted by a record setting $11000 in proceeds being donated to the Northborough Food Pantry (NFP). The pantry is run completely by volunteers which allows !00% of proceeds to be used to purchase food items for those utilizing the pantry services. This generous monetary donation raised by this one event ensures the pantry will be able to provide supplemental food to Northborough residents in need for many months to come.

Powerful Local Partnership: Highlighting the Westboro Speedway Plaza Stop and Shop

Have you ever visited the Westboro Speedway Plaza Stop and Shop and wondered what happens to the food placed in the donation bin at the front of the store? Those items are collected twice a week by our Junior Volunteers and swiftly placed on the shelves to nourish local families. Anyone who wants to donate food items to our pantry, but not make the special trip to 37 Pierce St, can confidently put the items in the bin at this S&S knowing they will get to our pantry shelves in a timely manner.

While this may be the most visible sign of the ongoing support that the Speedway Stop and Shop provides the Northborough Food Pantry, the depth of their support is far deeper. Recently the managers, Sean and Jonathan, have run promotions at the cash registers asking customers purchase specific items to be donated directly to our bin. This promotion has been wonderfully successful with lots of canned beans and couscous side dish mixes being made available to us! Thank you to all who have participated, it is greatly appreciated.

The Stop and Shop Food for Friends program enables customers to purchase $10/pre-made box of staples at registers during Nov-Dec. These boxes were given to our clients to help bridge the holiday weeks when we were closed. Our new facility allowed for easier access and distribution of these prepared boxes. A recent generous monetary donation was made via the Stop & Shop Food For Friends program.

Thank you, Speedway Plaza Stop and Shop! You are such an amazing partner!
